![[photo-1574027542338-98e75acfd385.jpg]] Knowledge systems and their data representation (knowledge graphs) have become a popular intersection of semantic web, NLP (natural language processing) and knowledge discovery (with associated data mining techniques) [1]. What is a knowledge system anyway? Knowledge-based systems were first developed by artificial intelligence researchers [2]. These early knowledge-based systems were primarily expert systems – in fact, the term is often used interchangeably with expert systems, although there is a difference. The difference is in the view taken to describe the system: - "**expert system**" refers to the type of task the system is trying to assist with – to replace or aid a human expert in a complex task typically viewed as requiring expert knowledge - "**knowledge-based system**" refers to the architecture of the system – that it represents knowledge explicitly, rather than as procedural code. --- Is MetaX a knowledge system? Yes and no. It is certainly a good question, undoubtedly arising among many observers left and right, wondering about MetaX usability and show cases. Let me explain rationale behind the postulate of multi-faceted MetaX purpose and position my response in the light of ecosystem architecture and methodology. Firstly, MetaX fulfills the promise of knowledge systems and delivers dynamic knowledge responses as desired by knowledge consumers. However, this is only one of the MetaX purposes and we dare to say, it is just a secondary purpose (bi-product of knowledge stored within the MetaX MetaStructures and associated MetaData. Secondly, MetaX delivers the ability to design, simulate and operate public and private ecosystems with distributed semantic recognition of entities and their relationships following SPHERES methodology. Integration with semantically recognized symbols, dynamic taxonomies, standardized visualization techniques, focus on target audience and combining existing business and technology layers is uniquely positioning MetaX as Ecosystem Platform transforming enterprises to next level. MetaX has a simple mission with complex consequences: "**Enable a shift from Services to Ecosystems**". What does it mean? Fundamentally, it means to move from enterprise and digital transformations to the next level: "Ecosystem Transformation". It means to stop thinking about transformation lifecycles and spend wasted time on specification of As-Is and time-consuming gap analysis. It means to move from static to dynamic transformations and from layers/tiers (2D) to ecosystems (3D) architecture. To summarize answer to question:" Is MetaX a knowledge system", MetaX is an Ecosystem Platform acting as a knowledge system if needed / requested by entity or stakeholder interacting with particular ecosystem. ## References [1] Maynak Kejrival; Domain-Specific Knowledge Graph Construction; Springer Publishing [2] Wikipedia; Definitions ## Related to [[What is CIEL and why do we need Ecosystem Language today]]
